About DockCall SMS Service
DockCall provides an SMS-based check-in system for freight drivers arriving at warehouse facilities. Drivers interact with the service by sending text messages to a warehouse's dedicated phone number to check in, receive queue position updates, and get dock door assignments.
How It Works
- Driver initiates contact — A freight driver arrives at a warehouse and texts "Start" to the facility's posted phone number. This action constitutes opt-in consent to receive messages.
- Confirmation received — The driver receives a confirmation message with their queue position and is asked to reply with their company name for identification.
- Door assignment — When a dock door is available, the driver receives a text message with their assigned door number.
- Interaction complete — Once the driver has completed their pickup or delivery, the check-in is closed.
Opt-In Consent
DockCall uses an explicit opt-in model. Drivers are never contacted unless they initiate the interaction by texting the warehouse's phone number first. By texting "Start" to a DockCall-enabled number, the driver consents to receive the following transactional messages:
- Check-in confirmation with queue position
- Dock door assignment notification
- Operational messages related to their active check-in
No marketing, promotional, or advertising messages are ever sent through the DockCall platform.
Physical Signage & On-Site Opt-In
Each DockCall customer facility displays physical signage at their warehouse entrance and driver check-in areas. These signs provide:
- The facility's dedicated check-in phone number
- Clear instructions to text "Start" to initiate check-in
- A description of what messages the driver will receive
- Consent disclosure: "By texting in, you agree to receive SMS updates about your delivery"
- Opt-out instructions: "Reply STOP to unsubscribe"
- Rate notice: "Msg & data rates may apply"
This physical signage serves as the primary opt-in mechanism, ensuring drivers are fully informed before initiating contact with the service. DockCall provides sign templates branded with the DockCall logo and the customer's facility information.
Message Frequency
Drivers typically receive 2-3 messages per check-in visit:
- 1 welcome/confirmation message upon check-in
- 1 company name confirmation (if the driver replies with their company)
- 1 door assignment message
Message frequency varies by visit. Drivers only receive messages during an active check-in session that they initiated.
Opt-Out Instructions
Drivers can opt out at any time by texting STOP to the warehouse phone number.
Upon opting out:
- No further messages will be sent to that phone number
- The opt-out is processed immediately at the carrier level
- Drivers can re-subscribe at any future visit by texting START
Drivers may also text HELP for assistance information.
Message and Data Rates
Standard message and data rates may apply. DockCall does not charge drivers for receiving SMS messages, but the driver's mobile carrier may apply standard messaging fees according to their plan.
Data Privacy
Driver phone numbers and message content are collected solely for the purpose of facilitating the check-in process. We do not:
- Sell or share driver phone numbers with third parties
- Use driver information for marketing purposes
- Share driver data between different warehouse organizations
- Retain driver data beyond operational necessity
For complete details, see our Privacy Policy.
Supported Carriers
DockCall SMS messages are supported by all major US mobile carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and others.
